Astrologer's murder case: One arrested in Digboi

DIGBOI, May 10: Dhan Das (23), son of Rameswar Das and a resident of horkotiya village under Digboi Police station, was arrested recently on the charge of murdering a renowned astrologer of Digboi, Topla Basti on April 29 at AOD residential area in Digboi.

According to police, based on the case no 70/16, the culprit has been arrested and prosecuted u/s 397 IPC. At present under five days of police remand, a thorough interrogation with the arrested Das was being carried out till the filing of this report.

While the investigating officer claims of having sufficient evidences to ascertain the crimil act of the accused, Das, a vegetable vendor who temporarily resides at Masterpara area within Digboi township, on the other hand denied all the allegations against him and rather said that there could be no evidence to establish his guilt except an earlier case of muscular clash with his friend in his village.

Referring to the incident of murder, he said that he was busy with his pan vendor till the morning of April 30 at Muliabari Bihu function.

However, interrogation and further investigation is being carried out by Digboi police to b the accomplices involved in the act.     

Deepak Acharjee, a resident of Topla Basti in Digboi under Digboi Police station in Tinsukia district was hacked to death by unidentified miscreants on April 29. His body was found lying in the AOD residential area beside a vacant quarter 1656-A in CMH area, very close to his residence.
