ATA flays attack on officers

Itagar, Dec 29: The executive members of West Siang unit of Aruchal Teachers’ Association, led by its president Henjum Ori, have vehemently condemned the series of mob attacks on presiding officer Karik Lollen and his team while returning from Sibe Rite to Gensi during the Likabali bye-election.

In a representation submitted to the West Siang district Election Officer, the association urged him to take strong action and to book the culprits under appropriate section of law.

The association alleged that a mob comprising 50-60 persons damaged the polling material, EVMs and physically assaulted the team. The security personnel on duty from ITBP had to fire five rounds in air to disperse the mob.

The polling team could mage to escape with the help of a Sector Magistrate.

Such acts of assault on officials during election duty is uncalled- for and all culprits involved in the incident should be given exemplary punishment under election laws, the association added.
