ATASU threatens to oppose BJP in 2016 polls

DULIAJAN, August 24: If the rendra Modi-led government does not provide Scheduled Tribe (ST) status to the Tai-Ahom community of Assam, then the All Tai-Ahom Students’ Union (ATASU) will oppose the BJP in the 2016 Assembly polls, said Miram Gogoi, president of Dibrugarh district committee of AATASU, during a press meet on Sunday evening at the premises of OIL and Gas Employees’ Association.

He also said that OIL and BCPL should not have anti-Assamese approach regarding the matter of recruitment at high-level posts and demanded recruitment of local youths in PSUs. Beside this, two members were included in the AATASU Dibrugarh District Committee during the general meeting which was presided over by Miram Gogoi. Pranjal Rajkonwar as information and publicity secretary and Munmun Gogoi as assistant general secretary were included in the district committee. In the district general meeting, representatives from 13 anchalik committees attended.
