Athawale pitches for reservation based on fincial position

Dibrugarh, April 3: Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment, Ramdas Athawale had an interaction with the media at the circuit house while he was here recently. He was also here to attend a meeting of the Republican Party of India (A) of which he is the tiol president.

Addressing the gathering, he spoke highly of Prime Minister rendra Modi, and confidently said that the ruling party would come to power after the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections too. The party would also be able to win all the Lok Sabha seats of the Northeast region in the coming elections, he said.

Talking about the welfare of the depressed classes and section of the country, he said that the current reservation ceiling of 50 per cent for them should be increased to 75 per cent. Referring to reservation based on fincial position, Athawale opined that the ones having an annual income of less than Rs 1 lakh should also be brought within the protective folds of reservation system regardless of their caste and religion. He, in the same breath, informed that RPI (A) would demand for the same from the government.

The Union Minister also said that RPI (A) – which is an offshoot of the Republican Party of India founded by BR Ambedkar – would organize rallies throughout the Northeast from November in a bid to connect with the masses and learn about their problems and disadvantages first hand. Athawale also appreciated Chief Minister Sarbanda Sonowal for the initiatives undertaken by him in the State.
