Athkhelia amghar incident condemned

GOLAGHAT (Dhekial), October 5: Various organizations reacted strongly to the incident that took place in the historical Athkhelia amghar on Tuesday.

The All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) of Ghiladhari Regiol Committee as well as the people of Golaghat strongly condemned the incident that took place in the Athkhelia amghar. The president and secretary of the student organization, Kuntalan Phukan and Akash Tanti respectively, alleged that due to negligence of the administration and police, the incident was took place. They demanded a high-level inquiry into the incident.

Notably, on Tuesday, a group led by Noren Bora and Tonkeswar Saikia, president and secretary of an organization med Durniti Nibarak Samiti, organized a meeting at Athkhelia amghar for discussing alleged misappropriation of fund in the construction of the new building of Athkhelia amghar. At that time, members of the Athkhelia amghar maging committee prohibited them from organizing any kind of meeting and also prohibited them from offering xarai at the amghar. As a result, a conflict took place among them, where more than six persons were injured and admitted in hospital. After the incident took place, on Wednesday a meeting was held in presence of Superintendent of Police and Deputy Commissioner of Golaghat between Athkhelia amghar maging committee and the opposing group.

The Superintendent of Police of Golaghat, Mabendra Devrai said, “Today it was decided that the maging committee will be dismissed on November 16 and the new body maging committee will be formed through election on that day.”
