ATLU expresses concern over child labour

MARGHERITA, May 19: The Assam Tea Labour Union (ATLU) Margherita Regiol Committee has expressed concern over increasing cases of child labour in Margherita subdivision.

Madhab Das, Circle Secretary, Assam Tea Labour Union (ATLU) Margherita said that children, mainly from tea tribe communities, had been found working in various areas of Margherita as domestic help and as workers in tea gardens, stone crusher mills, plywood factories, hotels, garage and bought leaf factories. He said that these children left school at an early age and were lured by brokers to work in various areas of the subdivision.

Das said that if the Tinsukia District Labour Commissioner and Margherita administration did not take measures to check the mece of child labour, ATLU would be compelled to launch an agitation.
