Attack on scribes decried

Biswath Chariali, Aug 30: The growing incidents of attack on scribes at Biswath Chariali have been widely condemned by the jourlist fraternity of this district headquarter town in the Biswath district. Jourlists have urged the police administration to ensure the security of life and property of scribes working with several newspapers and news channels of the State. The jourlists led by Ratan Bhuyan, assistant secretary, All Assam Jourlist Union (AAJU) and Hamanta Saikia, general secretary, All Assam Press Correspondents’ Union (APCU) met Diganta Kumar Choudhury, Superintendent of Police, Biswath district at his office on Tuesday and held a threadbare discussion with him regarding the matter. Bhuchitra Dadhara, a photo jourlist, was insulted by miscreants inside Biswath College a few days back while he had gone there to collect news with fellow scribes. On the other hand, some other jourlists were ill-treated by an unruly mob near Out Agency here. Senior jourlists Basanta Borah, Niranjan Hazarika presented various problems being faced by them while on duty. SP Choudhury assured that he would try his best to ensure the security of jourlists of the district. He also assured all possible help to the scribes in this respect. DSPs Dr Debashish th and Kalyan Kumar Das were also present in the meet.
