Attempt to loot money, tea garden mager has rrow escape

DIGBOI, March 15: A group of five unidentified masked miscreants fired three bullets with countrymade guns at a Tata Sumo (AS23 H 0520) that was carrying garden payment of around Rs 8.92 lakh on Saturday evening in the Pengaree Reserve forest under Digboi Police Station in Tinsukia district.

According to Rajiv Singh Rai, the Mager of Kopther Tea Garden at Bordumsa, he was travelling in the company’s car with the money to pay the fortnightly dues of the garden workers when the incident took place in the reserve forest. He said that five armed miscreants wearing masks suddenly appeared at a distance in the jungle and fired once in the direction of the driver Bipul Sonowal and two bullets hit the vehicle. The three persons in the car had a rrow escape.

Meanwhile, after informing the nearby Pengaree police station immediately, an FIR was lodged later at Digboi police station.

Talking to The Sentinel,  SP And Prakash Tiwari said that the road was once heavily infested by dacoits and using daos and spears, several incidents of loot had taken place earlier,  particularly ahead of festivals like Durga Puja and Bihu. But after the improvement of the condition of the road, the dacoits  might have started using guns.  He said police investigation was on and all efforts were being made to b the dacoits.
