Audio-visual van on oil palm cultivation flagged off

Itagar, Nov 29: An audio visual van for creating mass awareness about production technology and benefits of oil palm was ceremonially flagged off by Agriculture Secretary Y W Ringu on Wednesday.

The audio visual van equipped with mass media aids is a part of extension activities by Andhra Pradesh-based Ruchi Soya Industries Ltd who are expanding area under oil palm in East Siang, West Siang, Lower Subansiri, Papum Pare and foot hill areas of East Kameng and West Kameng districts in terms of the MoU signed with the state government.

Corporate Head of Oil Palm division of Ruchi Soya Industries Ltd Dr P Malleshan  informed that the van would move around in potential areas of oil palm to sensitize and develop skill of the growers through audio visual aids on the principle of “seeing is believing”.

The deputy general mager and project mager of oil palm, Pasighat also were present, an official report informed here.

Ringu in her address advised all the officers and officials of rthe department to spread the message about benefits of oil palm cultivation which is in contract farming mode with buy back assurance.

She conveyed her great appreciation to the Ruchi Soya Industries Ltd for initiating private extension services which has so far been negligible in Aruchal Pradesh.

It is worth mentioning fact that the state government has initiated oil palm cultivation through private developers in the foot hills areas of the state with a target of 20000 hectares by 2022 which is a step towards crop diversification to ensure doubling of framers’ income by 2023 as envisaged by Prime Minister rendra Modi.
