AU’s bioinformatics centre ranks first in India

Silchar, February 6: Bioinformatics centre of Assam university has been ranked 1st in scientific research paper 2014 publication among all the centres  (BIF universities) in India. In a tiol level meeting of DBT, Government of India held at Tirupati, Andra Pradesh this ranking was declared by advisor DBT Government of India Dr. T Madhan Mohan.

 Last year in Goa meeting the centre got 4th rank. This achievement by the centre clearly indicates that quality research being carried out in the center has given the centre a full tiol character and made it a centre of tiol level quality.

Since 2013 that is from Lucknow meet, DBT Government of India initiated such incentive award for promoting bioinformatics research in the country and 170 centres established in the country are given the responsibility to promote such research in India. Based on cumulative impact factor of the research papers published by the centres in the preceding year such incentives are given classifying the centres in 4 different categories like COE, DIC, SUB DIC, and BIF. Assam University Bioinformatics Centre falls in BIF category and there are 120 BIF category bioinformatics centres in India.

As an incentive, the first rank holders are given Rs. 5 lakhs as award money by DBT Government of India for the bioinformatics research related expenditure.

The Coorditor of Assam University Bioinformatics Centre Prof. Mabendra Dutta Choudhury has greeted all the researchers, staffs and colleagues associated with bioinformatics centre for achieving first rank in India by the centre.
