GAON, January 4: An executive meeting of the Karbi tiol Convention (KNC) was held at Samsonsingh Ingti Memorial Hall of Khristianpatty, gaon on Monday. The meeting was presided over by Dhaniram Hanse. Deligates from KNC, KSU, KBA, AAKSA, KARSAA, NDKO and NDKSA took part in the meeting.

The participants discussed the socio-economic problems of Karbi people who are residing beyond the territory of Karbi Anglong. Though the meeting unimously welcomed the Assam Government’s initiative to deal with the problems relating to the Karbi people, it asked the government to take the representatives of the organizations of Karbi people in faith.

The meeting, however, suggested the government to form autonomous council for the development of Karbi people residing outside Karbi Anglong instead of development council, which the government had proposed. To carry on the demand, the meeting formed a committee comprising 12 delegates to interact with the government. The secretary of KNC said that they would take to the streets if their demand was not fulfilled.
