Avishek hits double ton in Silchar's big victory

GUWAHATI, March 10: A terrific knock from Avishek Thakuri guided Silchar to a huge victory against Hailakandi in the Nuruddin Senior Inter District Cricket tourment match held at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium here today. Avishek hit double ton in the 1st innings and Silchar won the tie by an innings and 72 runs.
Avishek, who remained not out on 115 yesterday, back to business immediately once the match started this morning and continued to domite over the bowlers. The batsman scored 215 from 181 balls in the first innings and there were 25 boundaries and 7 over boundaries in his innings. 
After the game jubilant Avishek talking to The Sentinel admitted that it was his best knock of the carrier. “It is the first occasions when I scored a double century and I am really very happy. In the last few matches I didn’t get big score and was trying to return among the runs as early as possible. At the initial stage I just wanted to stay on the wicket and try to score as many run as possible. I went to the ground with same plan this morning and just hanged on their and rest of the things happened automatically,” said Thakuri.
He also added that this innings will boost up his confidence level in the coming matches and also in the coming season. Avishek became the first cricketer from Assam who scored a double century at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium. Earlier, Sanju Samson scored a double ton in the same venue in a Ranji trophy tie against Assam.
Silchar today stretched their lead to 238 before declared the first innings at 394 for 9. Later they bowled out Hailakandi 166 runs in their second innings. Rahul Singh picked up five wickets for just 33 runs. With this victory Silchar moved into the quarter fil of the championship.
