Awareness camp on MV Act and Rules

Silchar, April 25: An awareness camp on Motor Vehicles Act and Rules on the direction of S Dutta, secretary, District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Cachar, was organized by DLSA, Cachar, in collaboration with Jiri Valley Development Society, an NGO, at Abhinas Mitra ME School in Jirighat recently. In his enlightening and useful deliberation, Mrinal Newpane, sub divisional judicial magistrate, Lakhipur, said that the new acts and rules related to motor vehicles and road safety focuses on penalizing and punishing those who breach or contravene traffic rules and regulations. He said wearing helmet while riding a two wheeler is a must for both rider and pillion and anybody found to be violating the law will bear a fine of Rs.1000. The new acts and rules state that individuals under 18 years are not allowed to ride motorcycles or to drive vehicles. This will attract a fine of Rs.25000 and a case will be registered against the offenders, pointed out Mrinal Newpane. The frequency of accidents due to drunk driving is always on the higher side. “In a bid to curb this offence, those caught in drunk driving will pay a sum of Rs.10000. In addition to this, blocking ambulances or any other emergency vehicles will attract a hefty sum of Rs.10000,” said Newpane.
