Awareness camp under Poshan Abhiyan held

Namrup, April 30: In a bid to improve the health status of children up to 6 years of age, pregnant women and lactating mothers through specific targets for reduction in low birth weight, stunting, under nutrition and anaemia, the Naharani Block PHC, in association with the Social Welfare Department, Naharkatia and Gorkha Students’ Union, Namrup, organized an awareness-cum-health camp under the Poshan Abhiyaan recently at Dilighat 4.
The awareness camp held on the occasion was chaired by Debendra Sarmah, spokesperson, Gorkha Students’ Union, Dibrugarh while Jayanta Dutta, health educator, Namrup MPHC, delivered the objective of the meet. Biswajit Baruah, SDM&HO, Naharani BPHC, attended as the chief resource person. Dr Baruah in his speech dwelt at length on the objectives and plan of National Nutrition Mission (NNM). He further added that many government programmes like SBM, Mission Indradhanush and MAA had significantly improved the overall health status of children. He appealed to the frontline health workers along with Asha workers to ensure awareness regarding health and nutrition among the beneficiaries. The awareness session was followed by a health camp where health status of the children under the age group of 6 years, lactating and pregnant women was examined free of cost. This was the first awareness camp held under Poshan Abhiyan or NNM in Assam.
