Awareness campaign on disaster magement in rural areas

Silchar, March 16: Kiran Deep, an NGO based in Kashipur TE,  district administration of Cachar and district disaster magement unit of Udharbond block of Cachar in collaboration with district disaster magement authority, took up awareness programmes on disaster magement in the event of tural calamities like floods and cyclones recently in the 7 GPs of Udharbond. The awareness programme laid emphasis on how to meet the threats to life and property by cyclone and flood. The time is well chosen in view of the impending monsoon which not only causes floods but also spells cyclonic disaster.
This results in loss of croplands, livestock, homesteads and precious human life, besides properties. In order to alert the people and keep them on their toes in the wake of tural calamities, the awareness programme was carried out. The awareness programme has covered Kashipur, Mazargram, Arkatipur, Tikolpar, Salganga, Kashpur and Paangram. The awareness programme was extended all sorts of help and cooperation by the volunteers of Kiran Deep NGO. The volunteers of this NGO played an active role in organizing rallies and public meetings where GP presidents of respective areas along with senior citizens and teachers explained to the gathering how best preparations could be taken to avert and minimize the destructive effects of tural disasters.
A sort of mock drill was also demonstrated for their visualization. The rally brought out by different schools with the teachers, students, guardians and common people with placards helped in spreading the right message intended. The response from the people was quite enthusiastic and encouraging. Through this awareness programme, GP level committees were formed to involve more and more members to give a new direction and dimension to the campaign. In order to bring in more participation from students, related quiz competitions were organized. Programme coorditor Brajala Ravidas on behalf of the NGO along with Joy Prasad Pashi, Raju Tantubai, Biswajit Kahar, Jantu Tati, Babul Kurmi and others actively participated in the awareness programme.
