Awareness meet on police accountability held

Golaghat (Dhekial), Feb 17: A regiol-level awareness-cum-interactive session for police and public on police accountability, organized by the State Police Accountability Commission in association with Assam Police and Golaghat district police, was held at the District Library Auditorium in Golaghat on Saturday.
 Speaking at the event which was attended by senior police officials of Golaghat and Karbi Anglong districts, chairman of State Police Accountability Commission, Justice (retired) Brajendra Prasad Kotoky spoke on the need to make the common people aware of the various beneficial legislations under the Assam Police Act, 2007 that could be used to register complaints of misconduct by police officials.  Justice (retired) Kotoky also stressed the role of district and subdivisiol legal services authorities in this connection and asked them to extend a helping hand to the common man in registering any such complaints. He also sought cooperation of all NGOs, garik Committees and Tha Committees in creating awareness amongst the people and spoke at length on the need to change the general perception of the people towards police. 
 An interactive session with all invited guests, distinguished citizens, representatives of NGOs, etc., was also held as a part of the programme.
 DIG, T&AP/ Eastern Border, Devraj Upadhyay, DIG (Central Range) BR Rabha, District and Sessions Judge, Golaghat, Satyajit Khound, Deputy Commissioner of Karbi Anglong, Adil Khan, president of Golaghat Bar Association, MN Dutta also spoke on the occasion.
 The opening address was delivered by Secretary, SPAC, HK Mahanta. Deputy Commissioner of Golaghat Gaurav Bothra, Principal, Police Training Centre Dergaon, MI Mondal, Superintendent of Police of Golaghat, Mabendra Dev Ray, Superintendent of Police of Karbi Anglong, Dr VSP Ganjala, senior police officials and officers-in charge of all police stations of both Golaghat and Karbi Anglong districts were present in today’s meeting
