Awareness meeting on road safety held

Tezpur, Jan 31: A district-level awareness meeting on road safety was held here at the District Transport Office premises with ADC, Sonitpur, B Ojha in the chair. Members of Sonitpur District Road Safety Committee and general public participated in the awareness meeting. The programme was organized by the Sonitpur district administration and the District Transport Office. During the meeting, District Transport Officials explained to the gathering about road safety measures and various provisions under Motor Vehicles Act. B Ojha, ADC, Sonitpur, opined that most of the accidents take place due to use of cellphone while driving, over speeding or rash driving, drunken driving and overloading. He further added that a person who dies in an accident has nothing to lose further, but the entire family suffers lifelong. He urged people not to use cellphone while driving and to use seat belts in four wheelers. The meeting was also attended by Mehtab Ali, DTO, Sonitpur, Biswajit Chakraborty, Deputy Register, Co-operative, Ratul Sarma and Dipen Talukdar, member of Sonitpur District Road Safety Committee, IC traffic Sadar and others.
