Awareness programme on child adoption held

MORIGAON, Dec 27: An awareness programme on child adoption was organized by Morigaon district Child Protection unit, in association with State Child Protection Committee, and supported by UNICEF, Assam at Kala Bithika Bhavan in Morigaon on Tuesday.

The programme was started with a cultural show staged by children about 3 to 5 years old. A felicitation programme was held where the District Child Protection Officer, Parinita Hazarika, Borli Rajkumari, Child Protection Officer, (NI) and mita Devi, Legal-cum-prohibition officer, Child Protection Unit felicitated Anuradha Adhikari Sarma, ADC, Morigaon, Anima Bora, officer, Social Welfare, Morigaon, Wahida Rahman, chief functiory, Morigaon Mohila Mehfil (NGO), Niranjan Baruah, member, Juvenile Justice Board, Morigaon, and advocate Abdul Mann in the programme.

Speaking on the child adoption topic, Wahida Rahman, chief functiory, MMM, said that the abandoned and the surrendered children needed special care and protection so that they do not feel depressed and people should come forward to adopt them. On the other hand, total 49 children have been registered at the specialized adoption agency in Morigaon.
