Awareness programme on cyber crime in Shillong

FROM OUR REPORTER

SHILLONG, June 17:  The State Child Protection Society organised an awareness programme on ‘Social Networking and Cyber Crime’ here today.

HM Shangpliang, Director of Social Welfare department in his address said,“Crimes committed against children often leave them traumatized and helpless to fight back. Youth should raise a voice for these victims. Youth can bring a change to stand and speak up for a cause. They can be the leaders and ambassadors of change.”

Pointing to the evils of internet that have an impact on the youth, he said that the students most often do not know when to draw the line and get entrapped.

“Your mind drifts and takes you to a different world which is beyond the horizon which is not required for you to go,” he told the children.

“Children enter the “no entry” area or the danger zone after getting access to their smart phones,” he said.

Shangpliang urged the students not to misuse internet keeping in mind certain parameters while using it.

Further he said the internet/social networking sites should not be operated as a channel for inciting violence, indecency etc.
