Awareness programme on drugs & alcohol abuse held

SHILLONG, Oct 15: The Urban Mission KJP Synod Sepngi in collaboration with the Meghalaya Police today organized an awareness programme on the dangers of Drugs and Alcohol abuse titled ‘Reach beyond’ at Motphran near Iewduh in the city.

“This addiction has affected a lot of youths in our state and we can say that in most household at least one member of the family is addicted to drugs or alcohol and what we are trying to do here is to make the people aware about the dangers such addictions brings to society,” Rev. Bidonbok Syiem Director Urban Mission told newsmen after the conclusion of the awareness programme here on Friday.

 “In many cases homes are being broken, families are falling apart all due to drugs and alcohol abuse,” he said adding that there have been several cases of untimely death of so many youths due to this very reason.

He also said that the Urban Mission had conducted awareness programmes in various schools and colleges on the harm of Drugs and Alchohol abuse during the past few weeks titled ‘Breakfree’.

He further informed that on October 27 they will conduct the awareness programme at Mawlai Nongkwar and on October 30 in Jhalupara.
