Awareness programme on mental health held

Shillong, May 25: With the objective to sensitise the rural areas of the East Khasi Hills district about mental health, the Department of Counseling Psychology from Martin Luther Christian University on May 24 organised an awareness programme on Mental Health in Mawbeh Village, Pynursla Block, East Khasi district.

The awareness programme was held in collaboration with the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) and sponsored by the NSS Unit of MLCU.

The students of 2nd semester from MSc Counseling Psychology gave a brief presentation on mental health, touching briefly on the signs to look for mental Illness in someone, measures to take in case a near and dear one is suffering from mental illness, etc.

A short role play was also performed by the students to bring home the idea that mental health is as important as physical health and therefore the same kind of attention should be directed towards keeping ourselves mentally healthy.

After the play, the 30 odd students broke into small groups and had a fruitful interactive session with the villagers about their livelihood, state of living and also whether these factor affected their thought process of made them sad.
