JORHAT, August 18: An awareness programme Utkarsha for skill development of poor youths of urban areas was organized by Jorhat Municipal Board under tiol Urban Livelihood Mission (NULM) on Thursday at Pitambor Deva Goswami Auditorium of District Library, Jorhat. The day-long workshop presided over by the JMB chairperson Aru Dutta, was iugurated by Jorhat MLA Hitendra th Goswami by lighting the lamp. The welcome address was delivered by Kabita Kakoti Konwar, Executive Officer of JMB. Vice-Chairman Anup Ghosh Dastidaar, Ward Commissioners and SHG members were also present in the workshop.
Addressing the youth, the MLA said that the workshop would open new job avenues for the youths of urban areas. Aimed at honing the raw and hidden talent of the youth, the workshop would give new direction to the job seekers. Speaking on the occasion, Bimal Bora, Principal of the prestigious JB College, welcomed the government’s initiative and informed that similar programmes had also been formulated by UGC and were being run in the colleges all over the country. He said, “JB College has also been organizing such workshops for skill development of the students from time to time.”
Several resource persons from NULM attended the workshop and highlighted various job-related issued through power point presentation. Utkarsha awareness workshops have been organized by the government at District HQs at Darrang, Barpeta, lbari and Golaghat and are likely to be held in the future at Sibsagar, Dibrugarh and Tinsukia, covering the urban youth.
