PATHSALA: The Axom Xatra Mahaxabha expressed their views against weaving of the new Anukritimulak replica Brindavani Vastra at Dakhinpat Xatra in Majuli which was recently opened by Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal.

At a press meet on Wednesday, the secretary of Axom Xatra Mahaxabha, Bajali Zila, Mrinal Chandra Kalita said that already two Brindavani Vastras had been weaved in Sri Sri Kangkhopar Xatra, Jorhat district, in 2010 and another in 2018, at Dimou of Sivsagar district by Putuli Mahanta and Dilip Baruah respectively. With the ongoing weaving of new Brindavani Vastras at Dakhinpat Xatra, the number will go up to four.

“In this respect, if the process continues then the philosophical and religious importance of the original Brindavani Vastra which was prepared by Srimanta Sankardev in 1554 will decrease definitely,” he said. Moreover, he said that scrupulous businessmen might start producing duplicate Brindavani Vastra, as is the case of phulam gamosa.
