KOKRAJHAR, March 9: A delegation of Axom Xahitya Xabha (AXX) led by its president Parmanda Rajbongshi called on the chief of BTC Hagrama Mohilary at Bodoland Guest House here and discussed the issue of land rights issue on Thursday evening.

Talking to reporters, Rajbongshi said the delegation held meeting with Mohilary over the prevailing situation over the land rights issue in BTC. He appealed to the Council administration to deliver equal rights and privileges, including land rights, to all communities. He also appealed to all sections of people to maintain peace in the interest of progress of the region.

When asked about the stand of the AXX over the protection of tribal land, he admitted that vast part of tribal lands of the State, including the BTC, has been occupied by the aliens, posing a serious threat. He said the Government should take preventive measures to protect the land of the indigenous people of Assam.

When asked as to why certain vested elements including intellectuals of Assam try to sensitize issues of the land and language only in BTC region as keeping mum in the Barak Valley and other parts of the state, Rajbongshi said people of Barak Valley have started using Assamese language. He said Assamese was being used in BTC as well. He, however, skipped from giving more replies on the question. On the constraint of teachers in Bodo medium schools in Assam, he said the Government should take steps for appointment in Bodo medium schools. He also said the AXX was also responsible for upholding the socio-cultural fabrics of the State.
