Jorhat, July 19: Axam Xahitya Xabha (AXX) president Dr. Dhruba Jyoti Borah on Tuesday said there was a dire need of research works on Sankardeva’s creations in an academic way.
Addressing a public meeting at Jorhat Planetarium and Science Centre auditorium, organized by the Bapchandra Mahanta Trust, Dr Bora said, “The creations of Sankardeva enrich our Assamese culture and literature. We should do academic research work on his great creations because the survival of a tion’s culture and literature is purely based on its academic research.”
In his speech during the Bapchandra Mahanta Memorial Lecture, Dr Borah also said, “Sankardeva was great saint of Assam. He was the founder of Assamese society. We have failed to discover his creations fully. His creations always inspire us and he gave a tremendous contribution to our society.”
Delivering the Bapchandra Mahanta memorial lecture, Tezpur University professor Dr Pradip Jyoti Mahanta also spoke about the great contribution of Sankardeva and the works of literature by Bapchandra Mahanta on it.
“Bapchandra Mahanta was a prominent litterateur of Assamese language. Mahanta completely evaluated the great creations of Sankardeva through his literary works. The creations of Sankardeva and Madhavdeva enriched our society. They are great saints of Assam and we will have to do a lot more research on their great creations,” Mahanta said.
In the meeting Keshoda Mahanta, the wife of Bapchandra Mahanta, released a book written by Bapchandra Mahanta on Indian history. Remembering the literary works of her deceased husband , Keshoda Mahanta said, “Bapchandra Mahanta was always conscious about the history and geography of Assam as well as India and he did not write anything without considering the history of geography.”
