DIBRUGARH, January 10: More than hundred Asom Yuba Parishad (AYP) activists headed by its president Sunil Rajkonwar, burnt the effigy of BJP leader SS Ahuliwala in protest against his comment on river dam project.

Rajkonwar, later told The Sentinel that Ahuliwala, while addressing the youth festival in Guwahati, said that river bundh was the only option to save Assam from erosion and flood instead of saying any word on any youth–related topic.

“We condemn Ahuliwala’s statement and caution BJP leaders not to utter any comment which would hurt the sentiment and ethos of the Assamese people,” Rajkonwar added. He also claimed that more than 200 youths formally joined the AYP at a function held on Saturday at the AGP office here. “Another batch of youths will be joining the Parishad on January 18,” he added.
