B R Ambedkar remembered

SILCHAR, Dec 6: The 60th death anniversary of Bhimrao Ramji Ambedkar, the architect of the Indian Constitution, was observed by members of BJP SC and ST Cell. Kabindra Purkayastha, former union minister, and Rajdeep Roy, state vice-president, along with other frontline leaders of party paid floral tributes before the bust of Bharat Rat Ambedkar near Unyan Bhawan close to the district administrative headquarters.

 Speaking on the occasion, Kabindra Purkayastha said that Baba Sahib was a crusader of the exploited and downtrodden people of the society. He also supported the campaign for equal rights of the women. He was Independent India’s first Union Law Minister and the think tank behind the framing of Indian Constitution. The day is marked to commemorate the memory of Ambedkar. Baba Sahib who was born to Ramji Maloji Sakpal and Bhimabai Murbadkar Sakpal on April 14, 1891, breathed his last on December 6, 1956.

 Rajdeep Roy said that Baba Sahib selflessly campaigned for the tion’s independence. He also published numerous jourls advocating political rights and social freedom for Dalits. In 1990, Ambedkar was posthumously conferred with Bharat Rat, India’s highest civilian award. The contribution of Baba Sahib to the making of the tion can never be forgotten. He was an abled jurist, economist, politician and social reformer who campaigned against many social evils.

 The members of Congress SC Cell separately held a similar programme and paid floral tributes before the bust of Ambedkar. Prab Das and Sajal Kanti Das along with other leaders of the party said that Baba Sahib’s ideology for an equal society continues to guide the people of the tion in the quest for a just society. He passiotely believed in individual freedom and criticized caste society.
