'B. Voc course to increase the employability of unskilled youths'

KALIABOR, Aug 27: An interactive programme on B.Voc. course organized by IQAC , SBMS College, Sualkuchi was held on Friday. Principals and Nodal Officers of 11 colleges under Gauhati University where B.Voc. course has been introduced such as Kaliabor College, Abhayapuri College, Chaiduar College, Jagiroad College, Pub Kamrup College, Sopur College and Mangaldoi College,  participated in the programme.  

Dr. Balin Hazarika and Dr. Nripen Chandra Das, Nodal Officers of B.Voc. Course in Kaliabor College also actively participated in the programme. The welcome address was presented by Dr. Dipesh Ch. Bhagabati, the Principal of the college, followed by the special address delivered by Dr. Hari Prasad Sarma, Rector of Gauhati University. The first technical session was also chaired by Dr. Sarma.

Second of the three technical sessions in the programme was chaired by Rekha Menon, Lead Education, tiol Skill Development Council (NSDC), New Delhi. In her speech she addressed the issues and questions regarding B.Voc. course raised by the delegates and cleared most of the doubts and uncertainties so far existing. She stressed B.Voc. course for skill development would be successful in increasing the employability of lakhs of unskilled youths of the country, not only in the country but also overseas.  With this expectation the Central Government had given much impetus on success of skill-based courses such as B.Voc (Bachelor of Vocation).

Dr Devahari Talukdar, Deputy Controller of Examition, Gauhati University, chaired the last technical session. Presence of Dr Talukdar in the programme was also crucial as he promptly considered the suggestions given by Rekha Menon and assured the delegates prompt action on his part. The delegates felt relieved that from now on the B. Voc. Course would get streamlined under the leadership of Gauhati University.
