BAA to organize special coaching camp for state players

GUWAHATI, June 21: As a part of the development programme Basketball Association of Assam will organize a special coaching camp for its players by a reputed coach of the country. Selected players from all age group would be invited in the camp which will be held in Guwahati next month.

Disclosing the news in a media conference the secretary of the Basketball Association of Assam Mukut Medhi said, “We have talent in this game but the number of coaches are very limited in our state. It is because of that we have decided to invite Prasan, a tiol level coach, to train our boys and girls in a specially designed coaching camp. The camp will be held at the R G Baruah Sports complex and we are optimistic that this camp will help our players to learn many new things.”

Meanwhile the preparation to organize the 3rd Dinesh Saikia U-16 Youth Basketball Championship is going on full swing. The meet will kick off at the RG Baruahs Sports complex on Friday.  Sports Minister of Assam ba Kumar Doley will attend the iugural function as a chief guest. Altogether 22 teams from different parts of the state will participate in the meet which will be held in both boys and girls categories. State team for the forthcoming tiol Youth Championship will be selected from this event.

The media briefing was also attended by the President of the Basketball Association of Assam Pulak Goswami, Chairman of the organizing committee Jadav Deka and few other officials of the organizing committee. .

Addressing the media Jadhav Deka said, ‘We decided to host this meet on the me of Dinesh Saikia, the former tiol basketball player, who made a huge contribution to take forward the game in the state.  We also decided to make an appeal to the state government for one time fincial assistance to the family members of Saikia who expired recently.” 

He also added: “The organizing committee is trying to arrange the forthcoming Inter District competition in the best possible way. Apart from providing all necessary facilities to the participating teams we have also made some special arranged for the closing function which included a spectacular fire cracker display from Barpeta.”
