Babul Supriyo sends notice to 3 Trimool leaders

Kolkata, Jan 10:  Union Minister Babul Supriyo on Tuesday said legal notices have been sent to Trimool Congress MPs Saugata Roy and Tapas Paul and MLA Mahua Moitra for defamation in connection with the Rose Valley chit fund case.

“The notices have been issued from Delhi already,” Supriyo said.

Paul, arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on December 30, allegedly accused the singer-turned-politician Supriyo of not only being involved but also “tricking” him into the fraud. Former Union Minister Saugata Roy, during a TV broadcast, alleged that Supriyo had received cash from the Rose Valley Group.

The legal notice against ex-banker Maitra comes after the Trimool leader’s police complaint against Supriyo for allegedly insulting her modesty twice on tiol television.

“During my speech, Babul Supriyo said ‘Mahua are you on Mahua’ (Mahua are you inebriated). He asked me twice on tiol television. I didn’t get a chance to respond. On January 4 I filed an FIR after returning to Kolkata, a case under Section 509 (Word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman). I have faith in the legal system,” Maitra said.

Responding to Maitra’s accusation, the BJP MP from West Bengal’s Asansol said the Trimool leader is being “childish”. (IANS)
