Bah-Gohain Utsav celebrated

lbari, April 21: Following the celebration of the Kendriya Bah-Gohain Utsav of the Sarania Kachari ethnic group of Assam, which began at the Goreswar HS School playground from Monday, an open meeting was held on Tuesday at around 1.30 pm with Prabin Deka, president of the Sadou Asom Sarania Kachari Chatra Santha (SASKCS), in the chair.

Addressing the gathering at the meet as the chief guest, Dr Anil Saikia, scholar of ‘lok-sanskriti (folk culture) and a former principal of Moran College said that ‘lok-sanskriti’ proves the identity of any ethnic group of the State. Various ethnic groups of people, either of the plains or the hills, must have their own folk culture as a means of survival of their existence in the near future. He also asked the Sarania Kachari ethnic group to become more developed through their own folk culture like the Kendriya Bah-Gohain Utsav.

Ismail Hussain, distinguished litterateur, also addressed the meet as appointed speaker. He said that the ethnic groups of the people – the tribal people, who origited from the Mongolian race, may have their different dresses and food culture, yet they must be identified as ethnic tribal people of the State.

ba Kumar Sarania, MP of 5-Kokrajhar parliamentary constituency, participating in the meet as a distinguished guest, warned the Sarania Kachiari community to mark out those political leaders or other leaders of the so-called organisations of Assam, who have been trying to divide the Sarania community, so that the Sarania Kachari ethnic group cannot united in the future.

Aditya Khakhlary, general secretary of the All Assam Tribal Sangha, also addressed the gathering as the appointed speaker. Kamala Kanta Mushahary, general secretary of the Boro Sahitya Sabha, released the souvenir Bah-Gosai at a function of the Deuri Sonmilan held on Monday here at 2 pm with Nilamoni Bora, vice-president of Sarania Kachari Sanmilani in the chair. Mushahary appealed to the Sarania community to identify themselves as a part of the Bodo community as well.

Dipjyoti Sarania, general secretary of SASKCS offered the vote of thanks.
