Bamboo stick in place of gear lever: Shocking view in Mumbai school bus

Guwahati: In rather strange and shocking news, a driver has come into notice who drives a school bus in Mumbai and has been risking the lives of school kids who studies in the Santacruz’s Podar Educational Complex. The bus driver is actually using a bamboo stick in place of the gear which is usually found in the vehicles. The incident came into notice when the bus hits the BMW car of a Khar resident on Tuesday morning.

When after hitting the car, the bus flees, the car owner had to chase and stop the bus. It is only after the businessman stopped the bus and confronted the bus driver Raj Kumar that the shocking view of the driver using a bamboo stick as a makeshift gear came into notice. This made the businessman to call the police control room and get the driver arrested by police. However, the driver later came out on bail.

The businessman, in his police complaint, stated, “I wanted action to be taken, which is why I stopped the bus driver for driving rashly. However, I was left shocked when I went to the driver’s side and found a bamboo stick in place of the gear lever.”

On immediately seeing this incident, he clicked a picture of the makeshift bamboo stick gear to keep a proof of the matter.

A Khar police officer, after receiving the complaint, said, “Kumar, who holds a driving license from Uttar Pradesh, said he had been using the bamboo stick for three days, saying he did not get time to repair the damaged gear lever. The school has been informed and asked to take the necessary steps.”

The bus driver is booked under Indian Penal Code sections 279 for rash driving and 336 for his act of endangering a person’s life by Khar police. Meanwhile, the RTO is also apprised by the police about the incident for further action on the matter. As the bus runs for the Santacruz’s Podar Educational Complex, the school authority was also approached on the issue, but the authority did not agree to disclose the number of students travelling by bus. The school management said: “The school is shocked to learn about the bus incident that took place February 5. All the students on the bus are completely safe.”
