KOKRAJHAR, Sept 16: With the festive season knocking at door, as many as seven different Bodo organizations here have urged the Kokrajhar district administration not to allow gambling, sell of drugs and alcohol during the celebration of Puja in Kokrajhar.
The organizations included-Kokrajhar district committees of Boro Samaj, ABSU, Ex-BLT Welfare Society, NDFB (Progressive), Western Zone, Surrendered NDFB Welfare Association, Gaonbura Association and Bodo Sahitya Sabha. A meeting of the organizations was held recently and decided to move the district administration to issue restriction to the puja committees to exercise restraint from allowing gambling, selling drugs and alcohol in the celebration of puja/mela in the district to save the youngsters from involving in indecency.
All kinds of gambling including restricted one, selling of alcohol and drug substances are becoming regular phenomenon in Kokrajhar in every puja or mela. The increasing activities of gambling and alcoholic substances in every puja and mela have become major cause of concern.
