Bandh hits normal life in Kaligaon

KALAIGAON, March 13: Along with the rest of the State, protest programmes continue in Kalaigaon. Kalaigaon Regiol Committee of All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) called a 72-hour Kalaigaon bandh on Sunday against the Silapathar incident. The bandh on Sunday paralyzed normal life in Kalaigaon. During the bandh, buses, other vehicles did not ply and streets wore a deserted look. All the business institutions were closed down.

Adequate security measures had been made throughout Kalaigain to maintain law and order during the bandh.  Assam police personnel along with paramilitary force had been deputed to keep the situation under control. No untoward incident was reported. According to police, a goodwill meeting was organized with Kalaigaon AASU to convince them to withdrawn the bandh in public interest. This meeting was held in Kalaigaon police station where Anurag Agarwala, IGP of BTAD zone, ADC Dithakanda Hazarika and SDPO Pranjal Borah took part. After that, Kalaigaon AASU decided to withdraw the bandh on Sunday evening.
