Bangladesh cricketer Hossain's wife arrested for maid’s torture

Dhaka, Oct 4: Cricketer Shahadat Hossain’s wife was arrested on charges of torturing their housemaid, a minor girl, here on Sunday. Earlier, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) banned the paceman from all forms of cricket until the charges against him and his wife are settled, saying that the reports of the couple torturing a minor were “utterly embarrassing”.

Hossain and his wife have been missing and on the run since a case was registered against them under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act, reports bdnews24.com. Miprur police officer Bhuiyan Mahbub Hasan said that Jesmin Jahan was arrested from her father’s home in the capital’s Malibagh area early on Sunday.

Hossain filed a police complaint on September 6 claiming his maid had gone missing. But several hours later, the 11-year-old girl alleged the cricketer and his wife used to torture her. Police said one man, Khandkar Mozzamel Haque, found the girl at Mirpur and took her to the local police.

Haque later filed the case. Hossain last played for Bangladesh in May against Pakistan. He went off the field on the first day of first Test following a leg injury. The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) had him treated in Australia and he was undergoing a rehabilitation programme. IANS
