Banking institution a stepping stone towards women emancipation: Tuki

ITAGAR, Aug 19: Aruchal Pradesh Chief Minister bam Tuki on Tuesday iugurated the first ever all women banking institution of the state, the women branch of Aruchal Pradesh State Cooperative Apex Bank at harlagun, near here.

The fully computerized all women branch, after the all women police station at Itagar will be manned by only women staff of the bank. Besides other banking facilities like NEFT, RTGS, etc, the branch would also offer lockers to women customers for safe custody of valuable assets like orments, documents, traditiol belongings, etc.

Congratulating the Apex Bank, the state’s lone public sector banking institution, the Chief Minister termed it as another stepping stone towards emancipation of women of the state. He called upon the officers and staff of the bank to ensure good, efficient and friendly customer services that will boost its growing popularity from strength to strength.

Calling the bank as ‘People’s Bank’, he advised the bank to establish more women branches and extend loans to women as they are more sincere in repayment of loan.

 “Women self help groups (WSHG) should be mobilized all over the state with the support of BARD so that the women folk who are the backbone of the society are encouraged,” he said.

Tuki lauded the Apex Bank for successfully facilitating implementation of state government flagship programmes such as Chief Minister’s Paryatan Vikas Yoja, Chief Minister’s Agri-Mechanization Programme, etc through subsidies. He said various subsidies cum loan schemes of the state government aimed to generate employment for youths would be routed through the Apex Bank and called for sincerity on part of the bank employees.

Emphasizing on the bank’s role in offering banking solutions to the people, the Chief Minister said the government will continue to support by providing guarantee to NSTFDC for mobilization of resources in cheap interest rates for BPL families and the weaker section.

He also lauded the bank for introducing the micro ATM, which he observed would be a game changer as even illiterate customers would be able to avail facilities like withdrawal, depositing and transfer of funds from remote places.

Responding to a memorandum submitted by the Aruchal Pradesh State Cooperative Apex Bank Employees’ Association, Tuki admitted the need for a permanent head office building for the bank with all facilities including training cum capacity building center. He assured that funds would be placed for the same in the next budget of the state.

To mark the occasion, Tuki also opened a savings account for his mother with the newly opened branch besides iugurating the bank’s website.

Meanwhile, Tuki in his short whirlwind tour to his home constituency Sagalee on Monday inspected various ongoing projects of State and Central sponsored programmes. ITI for women, augmentation of water supply and mini secretariat were among few sites which CM took a round of. He also laid foundation stones of outdoor stadium and new community health centre building during the visit.
