Barail Mountain Festival held in Haflong

Haflong, Jan 23: The Barail Mountain Festival, 2017 was held at the tun Leikul ground in Haflong under the auspices of Dima Hasao Tourism Association, in collaboration with Dima Hasao Tourism.

 The festival was formally iugurated by Kulendra Daulagapu, EM, N C Hills Autonomous Council in presence of Ihuing Pame, EM, NCHAC, and Col Gagan Pandey, CO, 43 Assam Rifles, by beating the traditiol gong.

Traditiol ethnic groups like Dimasa, Kuki, Jemi ga and Jayantia presented their traditiol folk dances in the festival. L J Singson, village headman of Notun Leikul village, said that the festival would strengthen the unity and cultural bond among the hill tribes of Assam.

Earlier, a semir on traditiol tribal culture was held in the ground where Dr T Haolai, Head of the Department, and Prof. Dinesh Tiwari of the English department of Haflong Government College and ndita Gorlosa of Make a Difference (MaD) took part as resource persons. This was followed by indigenous traditiol games and sports where local youths and tourists took part.

This was followed by live music performance by local bands and bands from Karbi Anglong which kept the audiences spell bound till midnight.
