Barak book fair from November 25

Silchar, Nov 15: Like every year, Barak book fair (Barak Boi Mela) will start from November 25 at Bipin Chandra Pal ground at Circuit House road. The annual book fair for this year has been organized by Barak Upatyaka Banga Sahitya O Sanskriti Sammelan and will continue till December 4. A host of events will be held at every evening of the fair which includes self composed story and poem reading and writing, discussion sessions and recitations. These events will start at 6 in the evening.

Shriti Pal th will conduct recitation sessions, stories session will be conduted by Sharmila Dutta, while Taimur Raja Choudhury, president of Barak Upatyaka Banga Sahitya O Sanskriti Sammelan, Sanjib Deb Laskar, Dr Amalendu Bhattacharjee, Dilip Kumar Dey, Subroto Roy and Bibash Ranjan Choudhury will conduct the discussion sessions. It should be mentioned here that speakers at discussion sessions will speak about the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016, features of Bengali culture and people in the state, Bengali’s current dilemma, Bengali literature, and Bengali medium in matriculation standard and drama culture in Barak. It will be a golden opportunity for the residents of this town to buy rare and priceless books at discount rates. They will also be able to enjoy the enlightening sessions.

 Book fairs are important for students as most of them have become addicted to cell phones, computers and other gizmos. In a bid to enhance book reading habit among the students, Barak Upatyaka Banga Sahitya O Sanskriti Sammelan has been taking the initiative to conduct an annual book fair and it has been welcomed by all. It is expected to garner a lot of interest among educationists, teachers, academicians and students.
