Barak literary body demands revival of Cachar Paper Mill

SILCHAR, May 17: Barak Hindi Sahitya Samiti has expressed its concerned over Cachar Paper Mill that has started functioning in 1988, but production in the mill has been suspended with effect from October 21, 2015. It is the only heavy industry of South Assam that provides livelihood to more than 1 lakh persons, doth directly and indirectly. Amar th Khandelwal, president, Barak Hindi Sahitya Samiti, has written, addressing the Prime Minister of India, rendra Modi regarding the issue. It has been stated in the letter that the mill urgently needs modernization and technological up gradation in order to put it back on the rails. The industry is very for the unemployed folks.

Amar th, on behalf of the Samiti, has requested the Prime Minister to intervene in the matter. He wrote that the work would not progress until and unless the Prime Minister attends to it persolly. He has urged the Government of India to provide for fincial assistance so that the plant can be re-opened.

Prime Minister rendra Modi visited Silchar just before the Assembly elections. There the Prime Minister made a public announcement that the mill will be reopened very shortly. It ahs been added that if the Government of India does not come forward with its benevolent gesture, the mill will have to die a premature death leading to economic starvation for thousands of people. The people will have to suffer with no fault of their own.
