Barak students' body decries political interference in universities

FROM OUR CORRESPONDENT

SILCHAR, July 20: Members of All Cachar-Karimganj-Hailakandi Students’ Association (ACKHSA) have expressed their concern over the intervention of politicians into universities. They said that a Vice-Chancellor of any central university should be objective and should not show any inclition towards any political party. The conveners of ACKHSA also said that the post of a Vice-Chancellor of any central university has been given constitutiol recognition and anybody who holds the position, should abide by the rules and regulations laid down in the Constitution of India. However, in the recent times, it has been found that objectivity has taken a back step.

On the occasion of the foundation day of Akhil Bhartiya Vidarthi Parishad (ABVP), on July 12, Prof. Dilip Chandra th, Vice-Chancellor, Assam University, hoisted the Parishad’s flag at the premises of the University. It seems that the University has come under the sway of political influence. The conveners, Subroto Das, Biswajit Dev, Rajiv Paul, Ripon Laskar, Debashish Malakar, Shabbir Ahmed Laskar, have expressed their deep concern in unison. They said that allowing one organization to celebrate its foundation day at the premises of a central University with the Vice-Chancellor hoisting its flag, will given leniency to other organizations and political parties to do the same.
