Barak students' body stages protest against 'anti-Bengali' comments

Silchar, Nov 19: Rajen Gohain, Union Minister of State for Railways and Hojai MLA Shiladitya Dev’s comments has invited the wrath of Bengali people especially living in Barak Valley. In this regard, a protest demonstration was organized in front of the statue of Khudiram Bose at Park Road of the town, today. A number of social activist and eminent persolities of this valley raised their voices against such anti-Bengali comments. The protest demonstration was organized under the banner of All Cachar-Karimganj-Hailakandi Students Association (ACKHSA). Badruddin Ajmal, AIUDF supremo, too has joined bandwagon of passing remarks against Bengali of the state.

 Anwar Uddin Barlaskar, advocate, said that such comments are unbearable as it reflects their hatred against Bengali people. Rajen Gohain went on record to say that Bengali people should adopt Assamese language and culture. “We condemn such comments. This is a conspiracy against us. We should fight against it any cost.” Sourindra Kumar Bhattacharjee, president, students’ governing body, mentioned it in particular that it is high time that a mass movement is organized. “How can they make such ucceptable comments? Their comments against the 11 martyrs of May 19, 1961 have hurt our sentiments,” said Sourindra Kumar Bhattacharjee.
