Barak Valley celebrates Republic Day

Silchar, Jan 27: Republic Day has been celebrated with pomp and show, gaiety and patriotic fervour, mirth and merriment, across the valley. The programme began with the relay of patriotic songs through fixed loudspeakers followed by hoisting of tiol flag at private residences and non government organizations. After that, the tiol flag along with the tiol anthem was hosted at various government offices, establishments and educatiol institutions. Students of schools and colleges guided by their heads and teachers moved to Police Parade ground in a procession. This was followed by garlanding at the statue of Mahatma Gandhi at Gandhi Bagh and paying floral tributes to him.

Speaking as the chief-guest on the occasion, S Viswathan, IAS, Deputy Commissioner of Cachar, said, “The rapid development of the valley, in all aspects, is heartening to note. The government schemes and plans, MGNREGA and Indira Awaash Yojga and others have been implemented successfully and a large number of people have benefitted from these schemes and services. This year holds a special place as the District Administration office has completed 150 years.” He further said that India being a democratic country should follow the principles of liberty, equality and fraternity.

Speaking about the NRC issue, the DC said, “97% of the work has been completed so far. It will not consume much time to complete the work. The process is going on full swing.” He also said that the people of this valley are keen to adopt digital means of transaction and go digital way. Among other dignitaries present on the occasion, included, Kabindra Purkayastha, Union Minister, Rakesh Roushan, Superintendent of Police, Cachar, Madhumita Choudhury, District Development Commissioner, Cachar, MLA Kishore th and frontline BJP leaders Rajdeep Roy and Nitya Bhushan Dey.

S Viswathan, IAS, hoisted the tiol flag and took salute of the combined march past by police battalion, district police, traffic police, CRPF, home guard, NCC, Scout and Guide and students of different educatiol institutions. All the government offices, official residences, private homes and the statues of great men were beautifully lighted and decorated. The celebration concluded with the glaring lighting and fireworks at Police Parade ground by 147- CRPF battalion.
