Barak Valley gearing up for mami Barak

SILCHAR, Nov 5: A number of steps related to solve the traffic congestion, crowd magement, garbage handling and other related problems during mami Barak have been taken so that the grand event that starts from November 18 runs smoothly. And around 16 companies of state police and Para-military forces will be provided for ensuring safety and security during the event. “We will leave no stones unturned in this regard. We have a full proof traffic plan and we want full cooperation from the public,” said Superintendent of Police, Cachar, Rakesh Roushan, IPS, at a press-briefing in the conference hall of the Deputy Commissioner of Cachar on Sunday. 

 “The President of India is likely to visit Silchar during mami Barak, so we chalked out specific and separate security plan. Chief Minister and other VVIPs will also grace the event and so we should be extra cautious. It will not be possible to do so without full support of the local public. It is a golden chance to showcase Barak Valley to the world stage. People should abide by the traffic rules and regulations so that it leaves a positive impression upon the minds of the visitors,” the SP added to say.

 Niharendra rayan Thakur, chairperson of Silchar Municipal Board said, “SMB garbage collectors will collect garbage at around 7 to 8 am and dump it into the trenching ground. Therefore, all NGOs should collect it as early in the morning as possible, at least by 10 am. I urge upon the people also to keep their city clean.”

 An informative PowerPoint presentation was given by Molisa Chetia, senior mager, client servicing of A.R.T. Entertainment and Services Pvt. Ltd, Guwahati. She gave a holistic picture of how things are being planned and what to expect from this particular event. “The whole idea of the event is to focus on the socio-economic conditions of the Barak valley” said Molisa Chetia prior to her presentation. The Presentation displayed the minute details of ‘mami Barak.’ As per the tentative list, mami Barak includes an administrative office, concert are, run for Barak, Yoga centre, food and selfie zones, Barak Museum, Amader Barak craft zone and a media centre zone with high internet connectivity. In addition to this, cultural nites have also been organised. “As of now, Zubeen Garg and Debojit Saha have confirmed. We are planning to invite a famous Bollywood singer whom people would love to lend their ears. Dance, song and other cultural items has also been included. mami Barak is a melting point of the culture of the Barak Valley,” Chetia added further.

 Both, Dr S Lakshman, IAS, Deputy Commissioner of Cachar and Anda Prakash Tiwari, maging director, ASTC, urged upon the people and the media-persons to play an active role in all the events related to mami Barak. Adequate steps have been taken to represent all the cultures of this Valley. They assured that 360-degree publicity has also been planned for the 3 day long grand event. Media-persons of the three districts have also been advised to send their opinions, views and suggestions to make the event even more meaningful.
