Barak Valley gears up for Christmas

Silchar, Dec 23: Christmas is the season of peace, prayer and joy for the followers of the Christian faith. Jesus stands for love, harmony and self renunciation for mankind, said Pastor Megha Chandra Singh of Silchar Baptist Church near district administration office of Cachar. The Pastor further informed that the celebrations will start with moderation by Samuel Das. Invocation prayer will be delivered by Dr. S Fame Singh. Miranda R Chanu will read out the scriptures. The Christmas carol will be sung by the youths of the Church.

 Besides, a congregation will sing the gospels in English, Bengali and Hindi. The offertory prayer will be delivered Kushing Kamei. Pastor further informed that a speech will be delivered by chief-guest Pastor A Karmakar of Malda, West Bengal. The announcement and benedictory prayer will be delivered by Pastor Megha Chandra Singh. It should be mentioned here that in churches of different denomitions across Barak Valley, the preparations for Christmas celebrations is going on full swing.

 The Christmas tree along with jingle balls have been installed in the prayer halls. There are three major churches in this town, Catholic Church in Holy Cross School, Presbyterian Church in Oriental High School and Baptist Church near district administration office. L Jawahar Singh, supervisor of the Bible College, said that the service will be over by around 1 pm and will be followed by the love feast. Besides, a band from Dimapur will perform in the evening. Around 2000 people are expected to visit the church compound on the holy day. Pastor Megha Chandra Singh added, “We are children of the same God. Christmas is celebrated with serenity and joy by the believers.”
