Barak Valley to get first Army school

Silchar, Dec 15: The need of an army school in Barak Valley has been felt for long since there is not a single army school in the Valley. Haren Dey, president, Dr Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Memorial Swartha Surkasha Parishad have written to the Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar to seek his permission regarding building of an army school in the valley, in the month of April this year. The Minister replied in the positive. He has been also informed that there is only a single army school which is at situated at Goalpara district of this State and another school is already in the pipeline which will be established at Golaghat district.

 Speaking to The Sentinel over telephone, Haren Dey said that some instructions have been given in order to build an army school. “Land along with other infrastructures is one of the important factors required for building an army school. “Roshan Biswas and I met with the Chief Minister Sarbanda Sonowal at Silchar Circuit House on June 30 and he nodded in the positive. There is an array of essential requirements for building an army school. The state government should provide for land, buildings and playground for the school.” Haran Dey also expressed his gratitude and gratefulness towards both the Defence Minister and the Chief Minister for their prompt action. Haran Dey said, “I have asked for the school to be built in Barak Valley because if land is not made available then the school could be built either at Hailakandi or Karimganj. FS Choudhury, Joint Secretary has also informed us about the matter through a letter dated October 14.” This is indeed great news as the valley would soon get its first army school.
