SHILLONG, July 14: Reaffirming their claim on Maitdein village, the headman of Barato village and the members of Dorbars Executive Council, condemned the statement of the headman of Maitdein village as false and baseless.

“Maitdein village has been a part of our village since time immemorial but during the late 40s many people from neighbouring villages came and settled here and because of this the Doloi at that time Samuel Bareh in the year 1951, with the understanding of the Dorbar of Barato gave them permission to settle in the village and this permission was again renewed by the Doloi of Elaka Shiliangmyntang in the year 1990,” former headman of Barato village Iborlang Shadap told media person here on Tuesday.

Shadap said that they had also given the settlers permission for farming and lumbering but instead these people are now claiming that the land which is under Barato Village belongs to them.

Stating that the two villages used to coincide and live peaceful with one another Shadap alleged that the current situation befalling the two villages is happening because of Doloi Khamly Sariang who without the knowledge of the Dorbar of Barato tried to hand over the land to Maitdein Village.

He also said that when the Dorbar came to know about what was happening on April 27 last, they decided to reaffirm the village boundary of Barato till the river of Myntang.

“However the sad part is when the headman of Maitdein Village Da Arphi Sariang alleged that the villagers of Barato came to their village and destroyed their farms and livestock which are completely untrue,” Shadap said.

“The Dorbar of Barato will fight this issue in the court of law and will not rest till what is attain,” Shadap said adding that they had also file a case in the Court of the District Council.
