Basanta Das’ inclusion in cabinet hailed

 MANGALDAI, January 24:  With the recent inclusion of MLA Basanta Das in the Tarun Gogoi–led cabinet, the 67 Mangaldai (SC) LAC has been able to have a representative in the cabinet after a long gap of 19 years during the Congress regime. Former Veteriry and Animal Husbandry Minister kul Das was the last cabinet minister representing the LAC.

    The people of Mangaldai have expressed satisfaction over the inclusion of Mangaldai legislator Basanta Das as a cabinet minister in the recent reshuffle. Even Opposition leaders have welcomed Das’ inclusion in the cabinet.

    Offering his greetings, president of Darrang district Committee of AGP–cum–former legislator Hiren Kumar Das, who was defeated by Basanta Das in the general assembly election in 2011, hoped that Minister Basanta Das would be able to contribute more towards the development of the district. President of Darrang District Committee of AIUDF, Saki E Kawsar also greeted him and said that the Minister had already done a lot for his constituency during his tenure as the Minister of State.  “Now as a Cabinet Minister he should expand his welfare and development activities to each corner of the district, besides concentrating on the overall welfare and development of the State,” he added.

  President of Darrang District Committee of BJP, Manoj Saharia also greeted Basanta Das and hoped that he would render his dymic service for the overall development of the district.  Eminent industrialist and secretary of Mangaldai Chambers of Commerce, Mukul Chandra Deka significantly termed January 23 as a significant day for Mangaldai and congratulated him.  “Basanta Das is known as a visiory, dymic and energetic youth leader with his deep interest in expediting the pace of the development and welfare activities even in the remote rural areas. We, the people of Mangaldai, are highly optimistic that he will be able to contribute more towards all round development of Mangaldai as well as of the district,” said Deka.

  Former legislator, former president of Darrang Zila Xahitya Xabha and eminent historian Dr. gendra th Sarma also expressed happiness over Basanta Das’ inclusion in the cabinet and hoped that he would be able to play a crucial role in leading the society at this crucial juncture.     The media fraternity of Mangaldai too has welcomed Das’ inclusion. “As a Minister of State for Information & Public Relations, he took a significant step to increase the rate of the advertisement of newspapers up to 50 per cent which was a long felt demand and at the same time he initiated several welfare schemes even for the media persons of the rural areas. We are happy,” said senior media persons Hemanta Kumar Barua and Hitesh Hazarika while talking to The Sentinel.
