Basanta Das offers stipend to weavers

MANGALDAI, August 30: Much to the delight of the members of Padmashree Self-Help Group (SHG) of Mangaldai, Minister for Fisheries, Water Resources and Industries and Commerce Basanta Das on Saturday ceremonially offered them a total amount of Rs 45,000 as stipend for the one-month training on weaving organized at the initiative of the Handloom & Textiles Department.

The SHG was earlier formed at the initiative of the Assistant Director of Handloom & Textiles, Bipul Kalita and all the 20 female members of the SHG took part in the month-long training. Offering the stipend to the SHG under the Group Approach Scheme of the department, Minister Das appreciated the initiative of the Handloom & Textiles Department for creating awareness among the weavers of the district and hoped that the weavers of the district, known for their expertise, would be able to make weaving a successful industry.

Assistant Director of Handloom & Textiles, Bipul Kalita and DIPRO Samar Kalita also attended the function organized in the office of the Handloom and Textile department here.
