Basic amenities still elude villagers of Khorsim Athoi

From our Correspondent

HOWRAGHAT, April 27: Though the government has been claiming all-round development in the Karbi Anglong hill district, yet many government schemes have not reached many remote villages. Khorsim Athoi village is a perceptible example of such deprived villages.

This village is situated at about 25-30 kms from Dokmoka police station. This village lacks basic facilities like education, electricity, road communication and potable water.

The grievances of the people of Khorsim Athoi village came to light during the recent visit of government officials comprising Deputy Commissioner Mukul Gogoi, Bolin Deury, Additiol Superintendent of Police, Hunmili Teronpi, ADC and N Shingson, DSP (P).

The government officials wanted to interact with the villagers but they did not find any government building to hold a meeting with the villagers.

According to official report, there are two schools, a primary and a ME school, with more than 100 students. A primary school was established in the year 1971. This has already been closed due to lack of teachers. The right to education act has also failed to give ray of hope and education to the children of Khorim Athoi village.

A school is being run by the hapless villagers but due to fincial constraints it is not affordable to all. Few officers, including the police department, have adopted a welfare scheme to run the school. Two teachers have already been engaged by the officers.

On the other hand, HAD Minister Kharsing Engti has been instructing the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council since few months to address the grievance of the people. Hence it can be expected that the grievances of the villagers of  Khorim Athoi  will be addressed soon.
