Batadrava all set to celebrate Doul festival

BATADRAVA, Feb 26: Batadrava, the birthplace of saint Srimanta Sankardeva, is all set to celebrate the Doul festival of Lord Krish with religious fervour and zeal. The festival reaches new heights at Batadrava, where people from all walks of life, irrespective of caste, creed and religion, always take part. Brajen Kakati, general secretary of the Batadrava Than reception committee, informed that the festival would be observed at Batadrava Than from February 28 to March 4 with a five-day long programme. The festival will start with taal kubua prasanga on February 28. On the first day, the idol of Lord Krish will be brought out of the manikut by gayan bayan, which is referred as Gandha Utsav. The gayan bayan will perform rang demali on the special occasion. On the second day, Lord Krish will be worshipped . On March 2, a long procession of devotees with the idol of Lord Krish will be taken out till the Doul Mandir. Holi will be played by singing holi geet with Xattriya music of khol and taal. Various religious and cultural functions will be held.
Meanwhile, 11 sub-committees have been formed to look into various aspects such as publicity, cultural activities, hospitality and reception. Dignitaries like Speaker of Assam Legislative Assembly, Hitendra th Goswami, State Agriculture Minister Atul Bora and many others will grace the cultural sessions. gaon district administration has declared a local holiday for the district on March 2 in view of the Doul festival.
